How does virtual welding work?
Correct guidance of the welding torch and an understanding of the process contribute significantly to the quality of the weld seam. Learning these basics is particularly difficult for newcomers to welding technology and hinders learning progress. Virtual welding trainers (VWTS) provide support here through interactive help systems that point out possible errors during the welding exercise and greatly accelerate learning progress through direct feedback. For example, virtual arrows indicate the correct inclination of the welding torch, while other aids provide information on the correct welding speed and torch distance.
In addition to the pure time savings, the use of virtual welding trainers also leads to a significant reduction in material costs, as no real training sheets, shielding gases and other consumables are required. Power consumption is also only around 10% of the comparable costs of a real welding machine.
Our system uses virtual reality, i.e. complete immersion in a computer-generated environment. The user can move around freely in this environment and interact with the objects in the world.
